Origin Story

For more than 15 years, the members of Wakayama University's English Presentation Class have conducted an annual tour of Mt. Kōya. During this time, it has been our distinct pleasure to have shared the sights and experiences of this extraordinary place with hundreds of students and members of the local, international community.

In order to have fun while promoting international exchange and an appreciation of Mt. Kōya, our tour included a "Scavenger Hunt" game (see below) that invited participants to delve more deeply into the features of this sacred mountain.

The KoyaQuest app is based on this game both in its goal of enriching each visitor's experience and in providing fun and stimulating challenges.

While the Covid-19 Pandemic has forced us to discontinue our annual tour, we are happy to say that we were able to resume the tour in July 2022.

Our thanks go out to all the people who have joined us on the tour over the years. Your participation helped make this app possible!

Scavenger Hunt

For reference, below is a downloadable pdf version of the "Scavenger Hunt." While some of the questions are similar to those in the app, others are quite different. Feel free to give these challenges a try (after you complete the challenges in the app, of course)!

While you are here...

Thanks for your curiosity about the origins of the KoyaQuest app. Allow me to presume further on your interest by recommending my son's podcast on the "History of Elections." You can find it via his website here: History of Elections
